- Daraius at Million Mile Secrets describes a new method for manufacturing points on the cheap by purchasing Visa and MasterCard gift cards. The good news for Daraius is that his article generated a lot of interest and discussion; the bad news for Daraius is that the folks at Flyertalk who apparently concocted the scheme promptly put a bounty on his head. Incidentally, I’m told that the bounty will be paid in $100 Visa gift cards.
I’ve never had the time, inclination, or guts, frankly, to purchase obscene amounts of gift cards and convert them back into cash through Bluebird, Paypal, or some other means, but a lot of people do quite well with these schemes and all power to them.

- As Gary from View from the Wing first reported on Sunday, the Chase Ultimate Rewards program has added a new transfer partner: Virgin Atlantic. This development isn’t particularly exciting, since Virgin Atlantic miles are some of the least valuable miles out there, but as Lucky from One Mile at a Time aptly put it, options are options are options are options. On the heels of my friendly debate with Wallaby’s Matthew Goldman, I’m wondering — will the addition of Virgin Atlantic pull down the value of Ultimate Rewards points in Wallaby’s algorithm?
